A 22 de diciembre, en el día de la lotería, en la antífona del «Oh Rey», a las ocho de la mañana, fumándome un pitillo en la ventana de la cocina de mi comunidad, desayuné chocolate.

Ya sé que no es muy profundo, ni tiene un significado trascendental (ni falta que hace), pero fue una alegría y una nube de recuerdos. Una de esas nubes preciososas que nos transportan al más allá de lo cotidiano sin despergar los pies de las baldosas.

El chocolate en cuestión había sobrado de la celebración de Navidad del día anterior de la Confer Tui-Vigo. La cierto es que no asistí a dicha celebración porque estaba metiendo cartas de niños apadrinados en Perú y Bolivia, para sus respectivos padrinos y madrinas, cartas que hacen navidad.

Pero hoy la sorpresa fue grande. Lo inesperado, en un termo que alguien de mi comunidad había calentado (el Hermano Antonio, gran persona de lo diminuto), salió a mi encuentro (o yo al de él) para hacernos uno en un vaso. No es gran cosa, ya lo sé, pero ese gesto sencillo me agarró y me llevó de la mano a otros años en los que el soñar era sencillo y la realidad estaba poblada de cercanías y la capacidad de sorpresa a flor de piel. Un tiempo en el que las Navidades se esperaban con ansiedad feliz, palpable. Donde el Belén de mi casa, también diminuto como la vida de Antonio, nadaba en musgo y serrín, con su río de papel de plata. Y en ese río yo veía a los peces, como no, cantando y los oía. Y en el pequeño portal veía la grandeza de lo minúsculo, la sorpresa de lo repetido con novedad recién estrenada, ese niño que balbuceaba sereno y con regocijo.

Y allí me quedé saboreándolo: el chocolate, el pitillo, la ventana, el Belén y ese Rey que no es rey, que es niño recién nacido, saboreado y sabroso…
